Las Vegas Hotel Ratings

Las Vegas is a great city that offers everything to everyone. Contrary to popular belief, Vegas has a lot more to offer than gambling, as many of the city's inhabitants will be quick to point out. However, to get the best out of Vegas, it is important to get a decent hotel for the duration of a stay. The Las Vegas hotel rating system follows the standard star, diamond and AA systems, recognized by every person around the world. These are also applied to Las Vegas' restaurants.

The Las Vegas hotel rating system uses numbers from 1 to 6. So, a hotel will be rated by a governing body that will attribute a certain number of stars, based on the following criteria: accommodation quality; hygiene; amenities and services available; other services available; service standards; customer service; restaurant standards; and business service standards and availability. However, it is important to note that a lower star, diamond or AA rating does not necessarily mean a dirty hotel. It may be that the hotel simply doesn't have an elevator, for example. In fact, a hotel may lose standing because of its inability to provide anything outside of the basic services and amenities. That is why it is important to check customer reviews before booking rooms at any hotel because even the Las Vegas hotel rating system is not foolproof, even though it follows international standards. Las Vegas is lucky to be in one of the few countries that have a governing body to monitor hotel ratings. However, discrepancies are rife amongst these bodies, whether nationally or internationally. What maybe considered by the Las Vegas hotel rating system's body to be a 5-star, may only be considered a 4-star by the equivalent body in another US state, or even a 3-star by some European agencies.

With this in mind, it is best to understand one end of the scale versus the other. Firstly, the Las Vegas hotel rating system uses two types of symbols, stars or diamonds. A 1-star or 1-diamond hotel may be an out of the way, but clean basic motel or at the worst, a sleazy/dirty hotel in the worst area of town. A 6-star or 6-diamond hotel goes beyond the highest standards, including energy efficient appliances, water supply and a general construction that is award winning. However, again always check customer reviews to get a more realistic picture and view of the standards.
