South Coast Plaza

January 172009

Prada, Gucci, Versace and Chloe. If they’re on the runways or in Vogue magazine, you’ll likely find them at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

Sparkling new luxury watches from Rolex? Check. The latest Hermes birkin or scarf in all three patterns? Check. And the new rose-patterned Louis Vuitton bag with matching shoes? Check again.

Step through the Looking Glass and enter a magical shopping wonderland where every girl is princess for a day, and the shoe always fits.

Colorful and imaginative surprises wait around every corner in a symphony of sights, scents and sounds.

It’s a grown up girl’s fairy tale, where a credit card and a bit of cash always ensures a happy ending.

Built in 1967 on a plot of the Segerstrom family’s lima bean fields, the South Coast Plaza mall is located in Orange County at the intersections of the 55 and 405 freeways. Without traffic, it’s about an hour’s drive from Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

This is not your neighborhood mall. South Coast Plaza stores include exclusive fashion boutiques for 280 of the world’s top fashion designers, including Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Dior, Chanel, Escada and Jimmy Choo. You’ll also find luxury watches from retailers like Piaget and Rolex, who chose South Coast Plaza California as its flagship US location.

Like Las Vegas, South Coast Plaza is constantly evolving — and you’ll find fresh, new and exciting fashion clothing, luxury bedding and fashion accessories every time you visit.

When you arrive, I recommend picking up a South Coast Plaza map at the concierge. This is a massive shopping complex, measuring in at 2.6 million retail square feet. There are also several places to view the South Coast Plaza directory in each wing of the mall.

Tip: The concierge can also make restaurant or theater reservations, check packages, offer personal shopping, help with foreign language assistance and rent out complimentary strollers and wheelchairs.

It’s no surprise that South Coast Plaza is, itself, an attraction drawing more than 24 million visitors a year. In fact, its stores generate more revenue than any other shopping center in the country.

Kids love it for the South Coast Plaza carousel, which has been a crowd pleaser since the beginning. If you save your ticket stub, there are some great discounts on the back!

You won’t find any food courts selling hot dogs on a stick here. South Coast Plaza restaurants are as elegant as its boutiques, serving up some of Southern California’s finest cuisine.

More than 30 Orange County restaurants vie for your attention, from the exquisite Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdales to the homey Antonello Espresso Cafe, an Italian sidewalk bistro that’s great for people-watching.

One of the best values at South Coast Plaza is the $20 three-course lunch at Marché Moderne, a nouveau French restaurant in the Penthouse at South Coast Plaza.

The truth is, South Coast Plaza is unlike any shopping center you’ve been to. I met in the Penthouse with executive director Werner Escher, who, during the past 40 years, has transformed South Coast Plaza into a tourism site as hotly anticipated as Disneyland.

It’s no wonder that South Coast Plaza is a featured stop on several bus tours in California. In fact, most Disneyland area hotels have shuttle service to South Coast Plaza three times daily.

But if you want to stay in the heart of the action, one of the closest South Coast Plaza hotels is the Westin South Coast Plaza, located right across the street. From here, you can walk practically everywhere, from the best restaurants in The OC to the world famous Orange County Performing Arts Center.

And did I mention the South Coast Plaza spa? The Spa at South Coast Plaza serves up some of The OC’s most pampering treatments, from hot stone massages to the bio marine facial.

At Spa Nordstrom, you can get a tropical smoothie mud wrap!

South Coast Plaza hours are 10-9 weekdays, 10-8 on Saturday and 11 to 6:30 p.m. Sundays.

The South Coast Plaza address is at

I need to find a grocery store (bottles of water, food etc), near Mandalay Bay hotel, Las Vegas. Suggestions?

November 282008

Would prefer walking distance but driving is also OK. A corner store or similar would be fine or a Topps or something like that.

A link to the location on maps.live.com or Google maps would be great…

There's a Wholefoods just south of there, down the strip about a mile from the southern edge of Mandalay Bay. It's a nice store, if a bit pricy, but probably you'd get a better deal on water than at a convenience store or something, and they have a nice selection of prepared food in a buffet style section. There's a whole open-air shopping mall down there, and lots of free parking.

question about New York, New York. (hotel)?

November 192008

I’m doing a research about New York, New York and its asking me to list one hotel on the left and one hotel on the right side of New York, New York. The hint that they gave me was to search for a map of Las Vegas strip. That makes no sense at all. Any help is appreciated.

p.s. yes i can go to google and put in hotel in new york, new york, but it won’t help me to determine which side the hotel is on. thanks
*Thank you Stan!

"New York, New York" is a hotel/casino in Las Vegas.

Cities aren't described in terms of left and right. The are described in terms of north and south and/or east and west.

Streets are described as right or left ("on the left side of the street").

The Las Vegas Strip is Las Vegas Blvd in Las Vegas, Nevada where there are a lot of hotels and casinos. If you are looking at Las Vegas Blvd (the strip) on a map where north is up, the New York New York Hotel and Casino is on the left (west) side of the strip. The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is right across the street.

Question about las Vegas strip.?

November 162008

http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/nevada/las-vegas/las-vegas-map.php

I was ask to take a look at that map and list the name of the Hotel that is located across the street from Planet Hollywood hotel.
-I told that it was the Monte Carlo Hotel. apparently they say that is not correct. any suggestion?

Then i was ask to name two hotels on either side of New York New York. (one on left, and one on right)
- I listed Orleans and the MGM Grand.. was also told that it was wrong. Am i seeing something different here?

Look at this map of the strip

http://www.vegastodayandtomorrow.com/condomap.htm

The hotel directly across for PH is Bellagio and City Center.

To the left of NYNY is Excalibur and to the right is Monte Carlo and part of City Center.

The map you have is not very accurate. The map I provided is current and accurate. The Orleans is actually way behind NYNY on West Tropicana. You are looking at that map from the wrong perspective.

Obviously to support the multi-million dollars salaries paid to the players. The real problem is that there is no need to do this to the fans because the networks alone more than compensate MLB for the three day event. It floored me when I found out that the kids shagging fly balls during the home run derby are strictly volunteers. They don't even give those kid tickets to the all star game itself. There is no way the average fan can possibly connect with the players. In a word……..Greed!! Great Posting!!

Is Hillary losing because she spent all her money partying?

October 52008

There's been alot of talk about Hillary Clinton's campaign financing and how they were running short of money… Maybe this is the reason:
"Nearly $100,000 went for party platters and groceries before the Iowa caucuses, even though the partying mood evaporated quickly. Rooms at the Bellagio luxury hotel in Las Vegas consumed more than $25,000; the Four Seasons, another $5,000. And top consultants collected about $5 million in January, a month of crucial expenses and tough fund-raising. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s latest campaign finance report, published Wednesday night, appeared even to her most stalwart supporters and donors to be a road map of her political and management failings. Several of them, echoing political analysts, expressed concerns that Mrs. Clinton’s spending priorities amounted to costly errors in judgment that have hamstrung her competitiveness against Senator Barack Obama of Illinois."

The guy above me is right… Hillary Clinton isn't likable.
