Charice brings house down at Agassi benefit gig

Sixteen-year-old Filipina singer Charice Pempengco proved she could hold her own among some of the world’s best musical stars at the glitzy Andre Agassi benefit concert at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.

The Andre Agassi Benefit Concert is held annually in Las Vegas to benefit needy children. It features A-list superstars of the music world and this year, Charice was up on stage performing with Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow and Mariah Carrey.

Before the show began, one of Charice’s most fervent dreams came true, when she met and hugged superstar Mariah Carey. Charice was very emotional about the meeting. Carey also had good words about the Filipina.

“I am very happy and I home I’m gonna sing with her soon, I wish! You’re beautiful, it’s so nice to meet you. She’s so cute! I love you Filipinos, thank you,” said Carey.

Rod Steward and Sheryl Crow each had their turn onstage, but it was Charice that brought the house down as she was given a thunderous standing ovation by the audience.

“I probably had at least two dozen people stop me on the street just in the middle of anywhere that are Filipino: ‘Hey, thank you so much!’ Just out of nowhere, and, ‘ I want to come there.’ We should all be proud of her, thanks to millie and Mike. They started it,” said American composer and producer David Foster, who is now Charice’s mentor.

Immigration lawyer Michael Gurfinkel, who has specialized in Filipino clients, also had praise for Charice.

“It’s a source of Philippine pride that we have a Filipina performing with some of the greatest performers on earth,” he said.

As she continues to go places worldwide, Charice is also gaining many fans, even among celebrities. No ordinary feat for this 16-year-old from Laguna.

I have a total of four guys including myself that are planning a trip to vegas this summer, and it will be our first time. Just trying to find out what hotel we should stay at. We definitely want a place that will really let us experience everything vegas has to offer (cool setup, pool, gambling, nightlife, etc.) But we cant have it be terribly expensive or we wont have money to do anything.

Rhys Millen seeks redemption for what was supposed to be a New Years celebration a year ago before a training accident derailed his plans, but only temporarily.

Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. will be televised live on ESPN/ESPN HD immediately following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (approx. 11:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. PT). The show will also be simulcast live on ESPN360.com.

Having broken the Guinness World Record for a motorcycle with a leap of 322 feet, 7.5 inches over the length of a football field during the 2007 Red Bull New Years Eve event, Maddison will attempt a more finessed, but equally challenging jump this time. The 27-year-old Aussie will jump his bike more than 120 feet high and land on the top of the 96-foot-high and 40-foot-deep replica Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris Las Vegas. What goes up must come down, and Maddisons not going to argue with physics. Upon completing the jump, he will then drop off the Arc and freefall 50 feet to a massive landing ramp below. Maddisons impressive resume, in addition to his record-breaking distance jumps, includes a very successful freestyle motocross career. In March, Maddison leapt an astounding 378 feet in Australia.

Millen will attempt to become the first person to complete and land a backflip in an off-road truck. The flip will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Millens flip demands the truck to travel a distance of 80 feet at a height of 50 feet. During his final practice before the 2007 New Years event, Millen overshot the landing, resulting in injury, damage to his vehicle and his withdrawal from the event. The 36-year-old New Zealand native is fully recovered and more determined than ever. Millens motorsports credibility is unrivaled. He was the 2005 Formula Drift champion and 2008 Red Bull Drifting World Championship winner, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb world record holder and has been the lead stunt driver in several commercials and movies, such as Dukes of Hazzard and Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.
