Where can I find cheap travel to Las Vegas for NYE 2009

December 312008

Is it possible to find airfare and hotel in las vegas….on the strip for less than $600 - $700????
From Chicago Midway or O'Hare

Looking at Southwest.com right now, airfare goes up starting on the 19th of December, and doesn’t really drop again until the 1st of January. The standard price for Southwest airfare from Chicago to Vegas is $159 each way anyway.
http://www.southwest.com/cgi-bin/lowFareFinder?ss=0&disc=0:7:1218570798.660344:8398@69561D7919BD610445D0674453323E41C0422ED5
If you went for 2 nights, like the 31st- Jan 2nd- the airfare on southwest would be $442.50

On sidestep.com, the cheapest round trip airfare is $291 on airtran, on a nonstop flight. If you are in any position to pay for your airline ticket right now, I wouldn’t take any chances and I would book at this rate. There’s not a very good chance that you will find anything cheaper.
https://tickets.airtran.com/Confirm.aspx
The airport it is flying out of is MKE, which is Milwaukee. That is less than 2 hours from Chicago.
The cheapest one out of the Chicago airports is $373 on United.

As it gets closer to time to leave, check this site for the lowest published room rates by the hotels. http://smartervegas.com/
Your cheaper hotels will be Excalibur, Harrah’s, Imperial Palace, and Tropicana. But it looks like a hotel will be at least $200/night for the l 31st. So you have to figure at least $200 right there. So with a $300 airfare and a $200 hotel stay, you could potentially keep it under $700, but you have to really scrape out the deals.

EXAMPLE
https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=EXC&host=promo&code=THNWEB&kbid=1162904
Excalibur is $201 on the 31st, and $61 on the 1st, but they don’t allow arrivals on the 31st.

This is getting messy, but if you were to fly out on the 30th and stay until the 1st, it would be about the same price

I hope this helps.

Military discount Las Vegas?

December 312008

My husband just got back from Iraq about 2 months ago from a 6 month tour. We wanted to take a trip to celebrate him being home safe and also my 21st birthday. We live about 5 hours from Las Vegas so we are planning to go there in January. Does anyone know which hotels on the strip offer military discount? We really have our hearts set on the Luxor or New York New york, or possibly Treasure Island. But If there is a good deal somewhere else, im all for it. We have a pretty expandable budget but not where we can be spending 200 a night on a hotel room. We will be there a thursday through a sunday. If anyone can help i would appreciate it! Google searchs and Las Vegas.com arent helping!

The Stratosphere offers a discount for active military
http://www.stratospherehotel.com

If you could go Sunday through Thursday instead of Thursday through Sunday you would save a great deal of money. Friday and Saturday nights are usually at least twice the price of Sun/Thur…

By going Sunday through Thursday you would not only lower the room cost you would also greatly increase your chances of getting a nice upgrade when you check in..

IMO, of the hotels on your list the Luxor would be your best bet.

Hotels.com has been having some very good deals

>>We live 5 hours from Las Vegas<<
I take it you're going to have your can…You might try one of the locals hotel/casinos rather than one of the strip hotels…You generally get more hotel for less money…

My suggestions
Eastside Cannery >This one is only 4-5 months old…the casino is very-very nice with some of the best gaming to be found anywhere and the rooms are 4 star all the way…Room 616 had a stunning view

Red Rock - Very nice casino - great rooms

Silverton - Very nice casino - nice rooms - Bass Pro Shop

Fiesta Henderson - South Point - Rampart - Suncoast - Sam's Town >are all nice hotels, with nice casinos.

Downtown - Our fav is Main Street Station - the Golden Nugget is a very nice 4 star hotel, we just prefer to stay/play/eat at MSS

Good luck, and God bless you both…
